To prevent puncturing, make sure that anyone won’t be able to easily access the roof. If there are trees nearby, regularly cut the branches short so that droppings won’t hit the roof surface.

Shrinkage

Shrinkage is common in all single-ply membranes as it’s often caused by the sun’s heat and UV rays. In some cases, prolonged exposure to these elements can lead to cracking as well. Fortunately, you can prevent this from happening if you consistently mind the seams. Conduct regular checks and immediately rectify seam changes if there are any.

Adhesive Failure

Adhesives tend to deteriorate at a quicker rate due to the sun’s heat and UV rays. This causes them to perform poorly, enabling water to penetrate and result in leaks, which could mean expensive roof repair costs for you.

Poor Installation

To successfully install a single-ply membrane, your roofer should have expert skills and sufficient experience in this specific type of roof. Getting the wrong seam size or failing to use the proper equipment for adhering a material can affect the quality and performance of your single-ply membrane.
