[Read more…]A Brief Guide to Typical Roofing Warranties
A new roof is a valuable investment that comes with impressive benefits, including a roofing warranty that guarantees performance for years to come. No homeowner wants to spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars for needed repairs and replacements when a faulty component causes roof failure.

Here, a trusted metal roofing company in Florida outlines what typical roofing warranties look like.
Manufacturers’ Warranties
Most roof replacements are covered, at least partially, by manufacturers’ warranties. These warranties ensure that the materials are free of manufacturing defects or failures over their serviceable life. With the traditional asphalt shingle roof, you can expect a 25- to 30-year warranty, though there are options for a 50-year and “lifetime” coverage. However, it is also possible that these warranties will be voided if the materials were not installed or maintained properly.
Keep in mind that defects are extremely rare and do not usually cause the failure of the roof. Instead, watch out for Insufficient maintenance, subpar installation and severe weather damage as these are the more common causes of premature roof failure.
Contractor or Installation Warranties
Most times, installation warranties offer more protection than standard manufacturers’ warranties. These warranties, however, usually vary depending on the type of the warranty and the contractor issuing it. Many roofers offer limited guarantees on their workmanship. If, in the future, you decide to hire a different contractor to repair your metal roofing, for example, or attempt to carry out the work yourself, you will likely void the warranty.
A standard asphalt shingle roof has an expected lifespan of 25 to 30 years. Most contractor warranties, though, only last for five to 10 years. You may be able to negotiate for a longer warranty, but it will probably cost you more. Some contractors will offer guarantees for as many as 30 years, but these warranties are rare and often reserved for slate, metal and other higher-end products.
